Protection and Prevention
However, the waterproof barrier provided by the mattress protector can make some people feel hot or sweaty, especially if they are already prone to overheating whilst sleeping.
The quality of sleep increases if your mattress is clean, and a mattress protector does that for you. The material used for waterproofing safeguards the mattress against water and is mostly made up of plastic. However, due to the plastic material, the heat from the body gets trapped, which leads to sweating at night.
Most sources strongly recommend cleaning your waterproof mattress cover before using it for the first time. Doing so will get rid of any strange smells, kill any bacteria, and soften the material itself. Each time you wash your mattress protector, it is best to use cold or lukewarm water.
Gently dab and spot clean the area with a mild detergent. Hand-wash the top part of the cover. Air dry to avoid shrinkage that may incur with heat. Wait until the mattress protector is fully dry before putting it back on your mattress.
